[Fine Binding | Kelly & Sons] History of Manon Lescaut

Prevost, Abbe; [Preface by Guy de Maupassant]. History of Manon Lescaut and of the Chevalier des Grieux. London: George Routledge and Sons, 1886. Illustrated by Maurice Leloir. 12 engraved plates with tissue guards, vignette headpieces on text pages. Bound in blue-grey morocco by Kelly & Sons for Brentano's of New York with several gilt rules to covers and similar design to five of six spine compartments; title and author to second compartment. Orange silk endpapers. Top edge gilt. Measures approx. 9.75" x 13" in the case. Housed in original flannel-lined clamshell box covered in teal cloth, title and date in gilt to spine. Clamshell with some edgewear and split along the spine edge, but is still quite sturdy overall. Other than some bookplate residue to the front pastedown and a few very minor spots of rubbing to the spine bands, a near pristine example.
