[Fine Binding | Zaehnsdorf] Chrysomela

Herrick, Robert. Chrysomela: A Selection from the Lyrical Poems of Robert Herrick. London: Macmillan & Co., 1892. Bound in russet brown crushed morocco by Zaehnsdorf, with elaborate art nouveau frame to both front and rear covers: flowing vines & leaves in gilt intertwine and extend from four large heart-shaped fleurons in blind, all accented with delicate pointillé, framed with blind and gilt rules. Five bands to spine with title and author to second and third compartments, with small fleuron in blind surrounded by gilt vines, leaves, and pointillé to the remaining four compartments. Elaborate turn-ins with further vines and leaves in gilt. Orange silk endpapers, all edges gilt. Zaehnsdorf “exhibition” stamp in blind at rear. Ink inscription on front flyleaf. Measures approx. 4" x 6". A hint of dulling to gilt on spine.
