[Fine Binding | Silvia Rennie] Trees

Kilmer, Joyce. Trees. New York: George H. Doran, 1914. This later printing of the 1914 first edition shows the: "Printed in the United States of America" on copyright page & Cortes corrected to Cortez at p. 22.

Bound by Silvia Rennie in flexible vellum featuring cream-colored, veined vellum stamped with designs of small green leaves & gilt berries following the veining of the vellum. The style of the binding was originally utilized in Europe during the 16th-18th centuries, with two vellum binding strips across the spine & through the cover sides, and looped back out and over the cover edges and then back into the inner covers. "Trees" stamped in gilt to the spine along with green leaves. Silvia Rennie's small binder's stamp blind-stamped to the lower right of back inner cover. Housed in a slipcase crafted of a dark green, thick paper. 

Measures approx. 5.25" x 7.5". Binding in beautiful condition, with some minor sun brightening to spine. Outer edges of text block shows some light browning and spotting, tanning from newspaper clipping (?) at top page of "Trees"; pp. 18-19, spotting to pp. 36-37. 

Also included is the catalogue from Rennie's "Designer Bindings" exhibition that was held at Kroch's and Brentano's in Chicago in 1985. Housed in chemise.
