Moore, Thomas. The Epicurean, a Tale. With Vignette Illustrations by J.M.W. Turner, Esg. R.A., and Alciphron, a Poem. London: John Macrone, 1839. Four fine plates engraved by Goodall after drawings by Turner. First edition containing the Turner engravings an the last work by Turner in the area of book illustration. 

Bound in full scarlet red morocco by Sangorski & Sutcliffe for C.E. Lauriat, with a gilt-ruled design to the covers, featuring small inlaid green leaves and dots at the corners, small green inlaid green and gilt dots at center points of ruling, and blind stamped rules extending from the spine bands, terminating in three dots in blind (all very Douglas Cockerell-inspired). Five bands to spine with title and author in gilt to second and third compartments, with remaining compartments decorated with gilt and blind ruling and gilt dots. Gilt ruling to turn-ins and red marbled endpapers. Top edge gilt. Measures approx. 4.5" x 7". Light rubbing to joints; still quite sound. A bit of minor rubbing to edges. Original cloth jacket titled in gilt on spine, lined with felt.
