[Embroidered Binding | Royal School of Art Needlework] Cranford

Gaskell, Mrs. Cranford. London: Macmillan & Co., 1895. Line drawings by Hugh Thomson. Bound by the Royal School of Art Needlework in a silk embroidered binding, with a design of pink and peach ribbon extending along the outer boards of the front cover, interspersed with knots holding small branches with green leaves of varying shades. At the center of the front cover is a rectangular photogravure of de Hooch's "The Courtyard of a House in Delft" that has been lightly colored. A metallic thread border extends around the edges, onto the spine edges, and around the edges of the back cover. All edges gilt. Measures approx. 5" x 7.5". Silk is a little age toned with a few spots of wear, but overall, in bright and undamaged condition. Heavy foxing to pages. Includes a modern clamshell box.
