[Hand-Colored & Extra Illustrated] Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam

Fitzgerald, Edward (translator). The Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam. Dodge Publishing Co., 1916. Originally issued with frontispiece and four tipped-in color plates by Adelaide Hanscom, all of the original plates have been removed and plates of Persian artwork added in their place. Further, an additional plate has been added in the rear of the book: a drawing in pen & watercolors of a woman in Persian garb, with elaborate jewelry, headpiece, and flowing robes. Additionally, four leaves have had their decorative borders illuminated in colors and gold, with these pages noted by hand on the contents page. Original light brown cloth covered boards, with black text to spine spine and gilt title to the front board with a color decoration of gilt-outlined grapes and leaves. Measures approx. 7" x 8.5". Gift inscription on front pastedown. Some very light rubbing to edges.
