Spicer-Simson, Theodore & Sherman, Stuart P. Men of Letters of the British Isles. William Edwin Rudge, 1924. Designed by Bruce Rogers. Limited to 520 copies, of which this is #450. Printed on handmade Rivers paper. A presentation copy to "Mrs. Hobart, a lover of books" from W.E. Rudge. Illustrated with 29 tissue-covered sepia-toned reproductions of original medallions; authors include Joyce, Yeats, Conrad, Hardy, Housman, et al.

Bound in deep turquoise crushed morocco by the Rudge bindery (unsigned, but attributed due to the presentation) with three gilt rules to the covers. Three bands to spine with title and author to second compartment and gilt ruling to all four compartments. Turn-ins with gilt rules and grey & green marbled endpapers. Top edge gilt. Measures approx. 8" x 11.5". Housed in a heavy morocco-tipped slipcase with fleece lining; wear to morocco edges and bumping to corners. Book has some toning to spine, along with a few small abrasions & slight rubbing. Warde 188.
