[Fine Binding | Arts & Crafts] Maximes

La Rochefoucauld. Maximes. London: Arthur L. Humphreys, 1902. Bound in dark brown crushed morocco in Arts & Crafts style, with a gilt frame to the covers, built up with mitres, dots, and a trio of stylized leaves in the corners. Title to upper front cover accented with a small leaf design on either side. Five bands to spine with title and author to second compartment, gilt ruling and small dots to remaining compartments. Gilt-ruled turn-ins with green endpapers. All edges gilt. Measures approx. 5" x 6.5". Some darkening and spotting to board, light rubbing to edges and spine bands, and bumping to corners. Foxing to pages.

Binding unsigned, but in the style of a student of Douglas Cockerell or early Sangorski & Sutcliffe.
