Lowell, James Russell. The Biglow Papers. With Additional Notes, an Enlarged Glossary, and an Illustration by George Cruikshank London, John Camden Hotten, 1859. Bound in red brown crushed morocco by Virginia Chester with a blind tooled pattern of leaves, dashes, and triangles to front and rear covers. Five bands to spine, with title to second compartment and author to fifth compartment. Wide turn-ins with marbled endpapers. All edges gilt. Bookplate ("Ex Libris Fisher") to front pastedown. Measures approx. 4.5" x 6.75". Light rubbing to edges and spine bands. Offsetting to endpapers.

Chester was a graduate of the University of Illinois, and studied with Gertrude Stiles in Chicago, Helen Haskell in New York, and Jules Domont in Paris. She was a member of the Guild of Book Workers (as of 1912), and opened her own studio in Chicago at the Fine Arts Building in 1914.
