Bound in green morocco by Sibyl Barnard & Lilian Hay-Cooper (unsigned) with gilt lettering to front cover, gilt ruled spine compartments, with a gilt dot in 4 of the 6 compartments. Wide turn-ins with small floral ornaments and ringlets at each corner. All edges gilt.
Bound in at the front of the book is a hand-written family tree showing the descent of Thomas Henry Barnard (Sibyl's brother) and his wife Bertha Mary Lampton from the subject of the book, Elizabeth Cavendish (Bess of Hardwick). Measures approx. 5.75" x 8.5". Spine slightly offset and lightly faded, with some light rubbing to covers. Foxing to pages.
